POLICY
It is the policy of the Kettle and Stony Point First Nation Education Committee to permit the conducting of
research, involving students and/or staff, in its schools when it can be demonstrated that the research will
enhance and advance the knowledge of the teaching/learning process.
REGULATIONS
1. All requests to conduct research in the education program must be forwarded, in writing, to the
Chairperson of the Education Committee and must indicate:
(a) the purpose of the study;
(b) the population required;
(c) the methodology to be used;
(d) the anticipated time frame;
(e) copies of any materials to be used; and
(f) how it will enhance the teaching and learning process for the community.
(g) how the researcher will identify potential and/or possible risks and how the researcher
intends to mitigate such risks.
2. The Chairperson of the Education Committee will forward all requests to the Education
Committee for consideration
3. The Committee will review each request, accept or reject each and notify the researcher, through
the Program Manager accordingly.
4. If the research proposal is accepted, a Research Agreement shall be executed in accordance with
the Protection of Privacy Act and any applicable policy and regulations of the Chippewas of Kettle
and Stony Point First Nation.
5. Written permission must be obtained from the parent/guardian before the commencement of any
research with minor students.
6. All costs for the research must be borne by the researcher and/or the sponsoring institution unless
otherwise agreed to by the Committee.
7. The Education Committee of Kettle and Stony Point First Nation must be provided with at least
one copy of the final report.
