Course Description:
General Biology 106 is a lecture class designed for students pursuing a degree in
any area of study except Science and Technology. This course will introduce the
student to the basic principles and concepts of biology. These concepts include
but are not limited to photosynthesis, metabolism and molecular biology. This
course acquaints the students with modern day tools, techniques and ideas used
to understand the overall scope of studying living things. The course will consist
of a combination of lecture, discussion, and group activities, with the use of
handouts.

Assessments:
There are four tests given throughout the duration of the course, including the
final exam. Each test will contain information from three to four chapters, and will
only be worth 100 points. There will be four quizzes, each worth 15 points, given
the week before each exam. The quiz information will come from one of the three
to four chapters covered on the exam. Any student arriving after the class has
completed a quiz will not receive a makeup quiz unless she/he can provide a
valid written excuse or an explanation for the late arrival. No make-up quiz is
provided without the written excuse. If a student arrives during the quiz period,
the student may take the quiz, but will not receive extra time for completion; she/

These assignments are usually given the week before exams, but may vary throughout the semester. Make-up exams and quizzes are given on the last day of class for students who fail to appear for the scheduled test day. In order for me to honor a student’s excuse, he/she must contact me before the exam is given. There will be no make-ups for students who fail to show up for the days set aside for make-ups. All make-ups are subject to contain material not covered in lecture and will not be multiple choice format as the original exam/quiz. There will be no make-up for the final exam. The final exam will be given at the assigned time NO EXCEPTIONS!!!!!!! Missed class assignments must be completed and turned in before the exam on that material is given. It is the student’s responsibility to find out what he/she missed, if the student fails to do so, they will receive a zero for that assignment. The instructor will not provide notes to the student for any missed days. Blackboard Use: Instructor will use blackboard to post quiz and exam grades. If you find discrepancies on blackboard, please notify the instructor at once. Class Assignment grades will NOT be posted on blackboard, but will be given back to the student in class. These grades ARE averaged into the students’ final grade in the class. Bonus points will be posted on Blackboard at the end of the semester. Classroom and University Policies: Talking among students at inappropriate times, use of PDAs and cell phones during class is unacceptable. This is very disruptive to other students who are trying to listen and learn. If a student is disruptive during class, he/she will suffer a reduction in class points. If a student continues to disrupt class that individual may be asked to leave class or referred for administrative or disciplinary review. This can affect your grade. University policy states that students are not to bring children, family or friends into the classroom with them. Cheating will not be tolerated!!!! If the Instructor suspects a student of cheating, points will be deducted from that assignment or exam. Cheating is a very serious

grades will be posted on Blackboard; however, class assignment will not be posted. Please remember, that class assignments are averaged into your overall grade in the class. Bonus points are given to at the instructor’s discretion, and will only be offered to the class as a whole. There will be no individual opportunities for bonus points. If you decide to drop this course, it is your responsibility to complete the necessary paperwork at the registrar’s office. Failure to follow these instructions will result in the student receiving an “F” for the course.
