1. Why might “cold calling” be an acceptable sales practice, but email spamming is not?
2. Two methods for web filtering are to (a) maintain a list of objectionable sites, and (b)
maintain a list of objectionable words or phrases. What are the problems with these two
methods?
3. What are the advantages and disadvantages of a patent over a trade secret?
4. In intellectual property terms, what is meant by “fair use”?
5. Can you share copyrighted music video files over KSU networks using BitTorrent? Is it
against the rules? Would you get caught?
Submit your answers to me to me electronically, via email to walker@cs.kent.edu with
“Homework 4” as the subject of the email.
You are welcome to (1) simply type your answers as the body of the email, or to (2) type your
answers into a word processor such as Microsoft Word, Open Office, or Google Docs and email
me the file in .DOC or .PDF format. In the latter case, use your last name as the name of the file.
