Using the internet, go to Enchanted Learning to find out about being president and
voting. You will use the website to answer questions on the activity sheet.

for Enchanted Learning)
Other sites to visit today:
While you are at these sites look for information that you could use in a speech, if you
were running for Class President.

Explore this site as a group.

While visiting this site be sure to print out a voter card for each member of your team.
You will need to present it in order to prove you are a registered voter, when voting on
Friday. To print it, you will need to go to the section on voting.
Day 2 – Find a Candidate (Tuesday):
Your group will need to select a person to be their candidate for the election on Friday.
After deciding who will run, the group will need to use Inspiration to map out the
campaign speech for your candidate. You will make a web showing your outline. The
speech will be videoed later in the week. It will need to be 1 minute long. We will view
these on Friday and then vote for Class President. Each group member will need to take
one area of the speech from the outline and write a rough draft of that section of the
speech at home tonight. Be sure and bring it tomorrow, you will be typing it into Word.
Remember, not to make your section of the speech to long because the whole speech is
just one minute total. The speech can be written as a conversation between the
candidate and citizens (other group members), if you choose. Decide what you are
going to do before leaving class today.
Day 3 – Type and Edit the Speech (Wednesday):
Today, you will work together to type and edit your candidate’s speech in Word. Be sure
to use the Comic Sans MS font (14 point) and double space, so that your candidate can
read it easily during the video recording. If you are doing a conversation between
members of the group, each member will need a copy to read. Remember, it will need
to be one minute long. Also, be sure and write a slogan for your candidate. This is a

If you are doing a conversation between members of the group, each member will need a copy to read. Remember, it will need to be one minute long. Also, be sure and write a slogan for your candidate. This is a

“catch” phrase that is easy to remember and often rhymes. (Example: “Get on board with Beau Ford.”) We will also be working on a poster for your candidate today. Each group will have a turn to use the digital camera to take a picture of the candidate for their group. I will download these onto a flash drive and then let you take turns copying the file into a Word document to make your poster. Be sure to include VOTE FOR with your candidate’s name and slogan on the poster. These will be displayed in the hall. If you do not finish the poster today, you will be given time tomorrow.

Day 4 – Finish Speech (Thursday):

You will have about ten to 15 minutes to finish up your candidate’s speech and/or poster and print them. Let your candidate practice reading the speech to the group. We will begin filming the candidate speeches. When you finish practicing your speech, you may revisit the websites from Monday while you wait for your turn. http://www.enchantedlearning.com/vote/presidential_elections.shtml (look in favorites for Enchanted Learning) http://bensguide.gpo.gov/k-2/index.html (look in favorites for Ben’s Guide) http://pbskids.org/democracy/ (look in favorites for Ben’s Guide)

Day 5 – Present Speeches and Vote (Friday):

We will finish filming the videos and present them on the large monitor. After presenting the videos, we will vote. Remember your voter card today!

Day 6 – Record Results (Monday):

Today as a class, we will record the results of our election on a pie chart using Excel. This will be done on the large monitor. We will also celebrate with our winner!
