Sexuality of a person is the way they experience and
express themselves Sexuality. A person can be attracted
to same gender as well as opposite. In India Sexuality
of a person is influenced by culture and religion to some
extent, India is a diversified country. For a person to
accept and follow their Sexuality is a task here. Each
individual follow different cultures and customs and
somethings its difficult to accept the fact of themselves
and come out of it. Especially when the person this
about outer world. Sexuality some times can bring a lot
of questions, thoughts and emotions to mind.
Sometimes they need to face rejection from society,
billing, the situation where they can’t even explore the
world, trauma and confusion. The society, work life,
discrimination, shadowing all of it can isolate a person.
conflict between the thoughts and the life the person
live out world can create a huge distress.
A person’s thoughts, emotions
and feelings can affect the Mental health. Sexuality is

is connection between Sexuality and mental health. The confusions, fear or acceptance all can create a massive trauma for a person who is just exploring the sexuality. The minority stress, or the experience of prejudice, oppression and discrimination is all too real. These experiences can lead to unhealthy risk-taking and even suicide. In Navtej Singh Johar V. UOI SC declared sec 377 IPC which states unnatural offences was unconstitutional in as much as it criminalized consensual sexual acts between two adults. The Court relied on the anti-discriminatory provisions of the Mental Healthcare Act, 2017 to observe that homosexuality is not a mental illness or mental disorder, and that LGBTIQ persons cannot be discriminated against on the basis of their sexual orientation. The Court also highlights the responsibilities of mental health professionals and counsellors while providing mental healthcare to LGBTIQ persons.
