Informed Consent Autonomy is one of the four pillars in ethical practices. It means that the patients have the right to choose their course of medical treatment. Many of these patients are not privy to the medical knowledge of a physician so the act of informed consent was started. Informed consent is simply medical staff explaining all of the risks and benefits involved in the treatment or procedure to be performed to the patient. The now fully knowledgeable patient is able to make an informed decision regarding their care and their autonomy has not been jeopardized. Informed consent is not just for the patient though, it is also for the benefit of the medical facility and staff as well. Informing the patients of all the risks protects them from any repercussion should the negative side effects come into play. The strongest aspect of the informed consent is the improved patient-physician relationship. The time taken with the patient to explain the procedure and answer questions creates a bonding moment between the two where trust becomes stronger. The patient now feels more comfortable with not only the procedure they are having but with the physician and facility as well. The comfortable feeling will leaving them wanting to return to the same facility. Informed consent is beneficial to the patient, physician and facility by preserving autonomy and building a strong trust foundation. Requirement for Consent Forms All consent forms have five general requirements. They must have adequate disclosure of the information regarding the procedure. The patient must have the capacity to make decisions regarding the procedure as well as full comprehension of the information given. The patient must give consent without coercion. These five requirement can be found in the consent for anesthesia.

Conclusion All consent forms have five general requirements of: adequate disclosure of information, decisional capacity of the patient, the patient's comprehension of information, voluntariness (freedom from coercion), and consent of the patient (Bustillos, 2013). These five regulations serve to protect not only the health care facility but the patient as well. The patient will be well informed of all aspects of the procedure to take place. The facility will be assured that both the patient and the physician are on the same page in regards to the procedure as well. The informed consent is the perfect opportunity to build the patient-physician bond of trust that will place the patient as ease and at the same time build a good repertoire for the for the health care facility.
