ELE 623 Microwave Measurements
S-Parameters Measurement
Experiment #6
Name: _______________________ Partners: _______________________________________ Group: __
OBJECT:
The purpose of this experiment is to use a vector network analyzer to measure the S-parameters of a two-port
device.
GOALS:
Each group is asked to hand in (1) hand calculated (or used by your own computer program) S11, S21 results
(dB and Phase), (2) Puff (or Serenade) results (dB and Smith Chart), and (3) VNA S11, S21 results (dB,
Phase, and Smith Chart).
PROCEDURE:
1. You should have your hand calculated and Puff results ready by now.
2. Do Enhanced Response Calibration
3. Measure S11 and S21
4. Use different FORMAT (dB, Phase, Smith Chart,…etc.)
5. Use plotter to plot the picture.
!! Rotation of CAL KIT is strongly prohibited in connecting or disconnecting procedures!!
Q1: Is your circuit a directional device? Or is it a non-directional (symmetrical) device?
Q2: What is your opinion that there are differences between hand calculated, Puff, and VNA results? Give at
least there reasons:
