What are lessons like? You will prepare for lessons by reading sections of the sets texts or whole texts in advance. The lessons are discussion based and rely upon your contributions and collaborative learning. Homework tasks most frequently are set to prepare for the next lessons. The written assignments are essay based. You will be given lots of support and advice at the start of the course on how to organise your notes, essays, folders into different sections reflecting the different texts and different exam papers.
Write down these questions or ideally take a picture of the screen now. What do you think is the subject of the poem- the overview- what is it about? How is love and intimacy being presented? How is the weather and setting being used in the poem? Apart from the weather what other images and motifs are being used in the poems? There seems to be lots of blurring of things in the poem- such as different emotions and one’s identity- why might this be?
Sometimes I like it to rain Heavy, relentless and loud, So you burrow into me like pain, And inhale me slow and free. I like the clouds to stretch And darken, and shadow the world As water mimics prison bars, And we bond like inmates. For at these times the sun Restrains its prying eyes, Neighbours melt in the gloom, And we are alone in love It is morning, But neither day nor night; You are neither you nor I I am neither prisoner nor free.
Summer Homework Task ➢ Select a picture, poem and piece of prose (which can be fiction or non- fiction) based on the theme of LOVE Through the Ages ➢ You will be presenting these items to the group in one of the first lessons back in September. ➢ They can be linked by a particular theme eg jealous love, unrequited love or explore different ideas about love across the centuries. ➢ Alternatively they can reveal 3 different ideas about love which may be contrasting. It is up to you ➢ This is your first task and we expect a 10 minutes well prepared presentation which indicates you are capable of discussing literature and images at A level standard- for example we would expect you to unpick the language and imagery and not merely talk about the content or subject matter only of your poem and prose. ➢ You will be emailed a H/WK sheet to remind you after results day.
Any questions?
