Question 1

With respect to decision support systems (DSS), discuss any three of the following topics:

(a) DSS characteristics and capabilities.

(b) Data management subsystem.

(c) Model management subsystem.

(d) DSS classification

Question 2

Utopia International is a large multinational company with many offices worldwide. Recently, the company launched a new 10 month project which involves many people from different locations. The project requires intensive communication information sharing between the team members. The management of Utopia found that it is impractical to bring the team to face-to-face meetings more that twice in the lifetime of the project and the chief project manager decided to contact you as a consultant in collaborative computer-supported technologies and group support systems. He asked you to prepare a report on following issues:

(a) Explain what is meant by groupwork. (5 Marks) (b) Distinguish between synchronous and asynchronous tools and give examples of those tools outlining their characteristics. (23 Marks) (c) Explain what facilities for group support systems exist. (5 Marks)
