Goals for Today. Students should be able to:
1. Cite and discuss meaning of Dalton’s Postulates, including the ways in which they have been
updated for modern times.
2. (By the end of the Chapter): recognize the symbols and names of the first 36 elements plus
additional elements to be given later on.
3. Show an understanding of the meaning of the Law of Multiple Proportions
Tomorrow’s Quiz on Ch 1:
Most likely questions on: conversions, metric prefixes, scientific notation, types of matter, unit
conversions and exponential (including scientific) vs.
For tomorrow, Fri. For Chapter 2: Read Sections 2.1-2.4 and begin working on the boxed problems as
well as suggested problems thereafter. Fuller list tomorrow.
For lab next week. Do as much of the prelab (Lab # 2, Physical measurements) as you can, but come
with questions if stuck. We WILL go over it.
