Core Curriculum Assessment
Use of Results by Discipline
Year: FAL2008
Category: Area D2, Laboratory Science Discipline: CHEM1211K
A. Learning Outcomes
1. Identify the general properties of matter.
2. Name and classify inorganic compounds.
3. Identify empirical and molecular formulas.
4. Use mass/mole relationships
5. Balance chemical equations.
6. Comprehend gas and thermodynamic laws.
7. Comprehend quantum theory, and periodicity.
8. Comprehend chemical bonding, and Lewis structures.
B. Please briefly summarize the results of the measured student learning
outcomes in the courses in this discipline, and then analyze what the results of
the assessment process revealed.
1. The class did not meet criteria for 4 learning outcomes
2. Out of the four that were not met, two were very close to
the target criterion: course outcomes 2 and 6
3. Outcomes 3 and 7 did not meet criterion at all and will have
to be evaluated.
*Planned Use of Results
Please list the dates of assessment
committee meetings.
Please explain how faculty will use the
results.
For outcome 3, I plan to work
more problems in class with the
students. This outcome requires
practice and that students see
different examples. Also,
*Implemented Use of Results
Please list the dates of assessment
committee meetings.
Please explain how faculty used the
results.

The following steps will be taken: Spending more time on that chapter, Solving more problems in class.
