The Midwestern Actuarial Forum is pleased to offer seminars for the benefit of students sitting for CAS/SOA Examination Parts 3L/3F/MFE/MLC in the Fall of 2012. The MAF is dedicated to providing high quality seminars with specific attention to the needs of the individual student. Our instructors are experienced in the art of exam seminars and have fine-tuned their materials and presentation to reflect the 2012 syllabus.
The seminars will be held at CNA Insurance Company (333 S Wabash Ave, Chicago, IL 60604) , conveniently located near Chicago’s O’Hare and Midway International Airports in downtown Chicago.

Student Fee Discount : Full-time students can qualify for a 25% discount on the above-listed fees, upon proof of full-time-student status.
MAF Refund Policy : Full refund of the seminar fee, except for a $50 administrative fee and the cost of any seminar materials already sent, is available by contacting J.J. Ihrke prior to the seminar date.
Seminar Overview – 3L/3F/MFE – Remainder of Syllabus: Howard Mahler will lead this session, covering Financial Economics, Statistics and Stochastic Models (CAS).
Financial Economics (Joint Exam 3F/MFE): September 7th^ – 9th Statistics and Stochastic Models (3L): September 10th^ – 11th
All of the material will be covered thoroughly, with an emphasis on material that is most likely to be asked on the exam. Theory will be illustrated throughout with numerous numerical examples, practice problems, and past exam questions. Slides of Mr. Mahler's presentation will be provided to students in advance in electronic form. Ample time will be available for student/instructor interaction.
Study Guides: It is highly recommended that attendees purchase Mahler’s Guides, "Mahler's Guide to Financial Economics" for MFE/3F and "Mahler's Guides to CAS 3L". These study guides are sold separately and are available through the Actuarial Bookstore and ACTEX/Mad River Books. Mr. Mahler will be teaching from them during his portions of the seminar.
Prof Johnson recommends Life Contingencies: A Logical Approach to Actuarial Mathematics by Prof Batten. For those taking Exam MLC only, the 2012 Exam MLC ASM study guide by Abraham Weishaus is also recommended. Both are available through the Actuarial Bookstore and ACTEX/Mad River.
There are several options for hotel accommodations and other traveling necessities within the downtown Chicago location.
Transportation: Taxi rates from O’Hare and Midway will run approximately $40. EL train rates to downtown Chicago from both airports are available for under $5 each way and passes can be purchased at the airport: Orange Line from Midway; State/Van Buren stop Blue Line from O’Hare; Jackson stop www.transitchicago.com/riding_cta/systemguide/
Hotels: Hotels are plentiful within walking distance of the seminar location. CNA has allowed for their negotiated hotel rates to be used for the seminar. Simply call the hotel and ask for the CNA rate. Also, hotel rates in downtown Chicago vary widely based on availability so please check travel websites as well.
